Role of Staff Advisor

Time Commitment: Dedicate approximately 1 hour per week with students to facilitate project work either in class, during an after-school club, or through independent study, depending on your school's implementation plan. This commitment will span from January to May 2026.

  • Host a Preliminary Meeting after SHIP Launch Event

  • Facilitate Weekly Student Meetings

  • Facilitate Monthly Student Group-Mentor Meetings

  • Host Preliminary Final Presentations

Attend Staff Advisor Meetings: Meet monthly with all SHIP schools’ staff advisors to discuss progress, share feedback, and plan for upcoming events. This meeting will typically take place on the last Monday of the month from 3:30-4 pm, subject to change with advance notice. The agenda will be sent in advance. If you are unable to attend, please feel free to send a school administrator in your place, and be on the lookout for post-meeting notes.

Key Off-Site Events:

  • SHIP Launch Event (December 9, 2025)

  • Culminating Event at Stanford (late April 2026)

Students must submit their team names and abstract by January 16, 2026!

Launch Event

December 2025

  • Learn about ten project challenges.
  • Website launches with all needed resources to build a team and select a project to work on throughout the Spring.

Team Formation

January 2026

  • Teams and abstracts are due on January 16th.
  • Groups are paired with Stanford mentors and first meetings take place.

Designing and Prototyping

February 2026

  • Teams begin shaping early solution ideas into simple prototypes.
  • Monthly mentor meetings support narrowing to one concept and planning next steps.
  • Continue steady weekly team work toward building and refining the first version of the project.

Project Development Continues

March 2026

  • Teams test early prototypes, learn what works, and make improvements.
  • Mentor meetings guide adjustments and help teams strengthen their design.
  • Weekly work time focuses on iteration and preparing materials for final presentation development.

Final Student Showcase

April 2026

  • Teams finalize prototypes and complete their presentation materials.
  • Schools may hold preliminary rounds to select showcase presenters.
  • Selected teams present at the culminating Stanford event (all teams attend).
  • Final presentation date late April.
